Réserve faunique de Rimouski

Wildlife reserve Region:Bas-Saint-Laurent City : Saint-Narcisse-de-Rimouski
The Rimouski Wildlife Reserve is a genuine treasure for fishing, hunting and other outdoor enthusiasts. With its mixed stands of maple, spruce, balsam fir and white birch, the reserve offers a rich woodland cover that is particularly spectacular in the fall. Visitors will enjoy the breathtaking surroundings and the close contact with nature as they discover the beauty of Rimouski, Kedgwick, Castor and Blanc lakes, and the Rimouski and Kedgwick rivers. Formerly managed by private hunting and fishing clubs, the area was set aside as the Horton Reserve in 1955 "to control the territory and protect the wildlife." This reserve was the forerunner of the Rimouski Wildlife Reserve, which was officially created in 1979.
The reserve includes 45 bodies of water as well as numerous streams and rivers. Shaped like a polygon, it totals 729 km², and borders New Brunswick in its southeastern section. The reserve's forests boast a large population of moose, which can often be seen alongside roads and lakes. The reserve is also home to white-tailed deer, hares, ruffed grouse and spruce grouse. Speckled trout await fishermen in the reserve's lakes, rivers and streams. During the summer season, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a wide range of activities. A visit to the Rimouski Wildlife Reserve is an opportunity to enjoy spellbinding scenery, a warm and friendly welcome, and a truly "enchanted forest" getaway.
