This land and maritime route winds along the shores of one of the world’s most unique fjords: the Saguenay fjord!

The Saguenay fjord has the very rare feature of being inland. It’s also where some of Québec’s most beautiful villages are found. Boating, nature and culture await you. You can tour the area with an audio guide, the perfect companion that is quiet upon command!

Check out the official website for the complete route.

235 km

By car, motorcycle, bike... all means of transportation are good. Apparently, you can even travel the route on foot, but it takes very strong calves!

Saguenay—Lac-Saint-Jean
Day 1

From Petit-Saguenay to L’Anse-Saint-Jean

Whale-watching excursion with OrganisAction

The journey begins with a Zodiac ride down the Saguenay fjord all the way to the St. Lawrence River to watch for whales. The captain and interpreter from OrganisAction will treat you to a customized, eco-friendly experience.

L’Anse-Saint-Jean village

Rated one our most beautiful villages, L’Anse-Saint-Jean enchants us with its historic homes, church and covered bridge turned into an art gallery. Lookout, marina, kayaking, hiking, cruises, horseback riding, biking... There’s no getting bored here.

Day 2

Exploring the Saguenay fjord

The fjord by kayak

Exploring a fjord by kayak is the experience of a lifetime. As you gently paddle between the steep rock walls, small curious faces pop up from the water. Some of the local seals come to say hello! For ages 15 and over.

Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay

Add to my planner

This park with its fjord is huge and awe-inspiring. You become aware of it while hiking along the Sentier de la Statue trail, climbing the via ferrata courses or sea kayaking. There’s so much to see and do.

Day 3

Trip to New France, marine life in the fjord

Site of New France

This morning, we jump from our beds to dive into 17th-century New France. In the heart of the fjord, historic buildings and guides in period costumes transport us to days gone by. It’s also an opportunity to savour a traditional Québec meal.

Musée du Fjord

Here, you can touch the stars. Star fish that is, in a special basin at the aquarium, along with sea urchins, sea cucumbers and other species. A multimedia show, activities and exhibitions inform us about the fjord.

Day 4

Saguenay: black bears, industrial museum

Bear watching with Okwari Adventures

In the morning, Okwari Aventures is waiting to take us on a nature safari. We’ll visit the Rivière-à-Mars canyon and discover First Nations culture. The adventure ends with us observing black bears in their natural habitat. Grrr!

La Pulperie de Chicoutimi museum

Just a stone’s throw from downtown, next to the river, this museum showcases 100 years of history of the Chicoutimi pulp mill. Interactive exhibits, activities, ruins, collections and various performances all contribute to the experience.

Day 5

The fjord, from the north shore of the Saguenay

Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux and fjord from the trees

Cap Jaseux is an original! Why? Because it offers unique activities such as extreme courses, zip lines, via ferrata, sea kayaking... It also offers accommodations in tree houses, suspended spheres, domes and other alternative options.

Cruise leaving from Sainte-Rose-du Nord

Next, a cruise on board the Marjolaine, a spacious and comfortable vessel that is part of the Navettes maritimes du Fjord fleet. A three-hour excursion takes us to the Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay statue and the highest rock formations in the fjord.

Croisière au départ de Sainte-Rose-du Nord
Day 6

Baie-Sainte-Marguerite, the park and the belugas

Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay

Add to my planner

A must-see, the parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay in the Baie-Sainte-Marguerite sector ends our getaway. We can take a hike, watch the belugas from the shore or go swimming. Do we really have to leave? Yes, but we’ll be back!
