What to do in March - a few suggestions

Celebrations

Events
In March, Mother Nature wakes back up and spring excitement is in the air. Ring in spring at some of the many festivals and events kicking off the season. For example, the patron saint of Ireland is celebrating his birthday! Join in the fun on Sunday, March 17 at Montréal’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade and from March 22 to 24 at La Saint-Patrick à Québec.

Outdoors

Spring skiing
In March, as the sun returns and temperatures start to climb, you might even be tempted to hit the slopes without your snowsuit! Skiers will be out in droves, taking a moment between runs to sit outside and enjoy a bite to eat or simply soak up the springtime rays.

Migrating birds
March also marks the return of the first migratory birds to their summer habitats, including snow geese. Track their progress as they touch down on the banks of the St. Lawrence River and in fallow fields along the highway. It’s a sight that’s worth the trip!

Vibrant Cities

Visit a major exhibition
Québec’s museums are cultural showcases, presenting a wide variety of exciting exhibitions. Whether the topic is science, art, history or something more esoteric, there’s a museum to suit every taste! In March, two exhibitions are sure to please fashion lovers: Thierry Mugler’s Couturissime at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and London Calling at the Musée de la civilisation of Québec until March 10. Visit also the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ): Manif d’art 9 – The Québec City Biennial: Small between the stars, large against the sky, an exhibition inspired by a line from a Leonard Cohen song.

Explore the Underground City
Stroll through the labyrinth of Montréal’s Underground City to discover boutiques, restaurants, hotels and museums. Throughout the month of March, the RÉSO pedestrian network will host the Festival art souterrain, which makes contemporary art accessible to wider audiences by taking it out of traditional gallery spaces.
