Calling all thrill seekers
Looking for some excitement?
Here are some intense experiences you’ll want to check out:
Fatbiking: Ever growing in popularity, the fat bike, or fat-tire bike, lets you ride right through winter. This sport is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and is practised on snowshoeing trails, in some parks and on Québec’s snowy roads. In the past three years, there’s been a proliferation of sites offering this activity and rentals. Fatbiking is a great alternative during our milder winters.
Ice climbing: Practised on frozen walls, this extreme sport is not for people who are afraid of heights! A number of sites are ideal for this activity, including: Montmorency Falls in the Québec City area, Montagne d’Argent in the Laurentians region and Mont Saint-Pierre in Gaspésie.
Alpine luging: Enjoying tremendous popularity in Québec, alpine luging first originated in the Swiss mountains more than 500 years ago. This sport requires less technical skill than skiing but offers just as much pleasure. Helmets are mandatory. Among other locations, alpine luging is available at Le Massif de Charlevoix, Domaine du Radar and Vallée-du-Parc.
Off-trail: Off-trail skiing (including downhill skiing, snowboarding or any other sliding sport) requires a transportation mode other than a mechanical lift (using climbing skins, snowshoeing, cat-skiing) and, as its name suggests, it takes place outside the boundaries of marked or monitored trails. Here are a few suggestions of where to enjoy this increasingly popular sport.
