Québec has set aside a generous helping of pure, unabated fun for families looking to combine education with entertainment. Theme parks across the province imaginatively recreate the living conditions and industrial practices of bygone days, while zoos where local and exotic species cohabit delight both the young and young-at-heart.
I heart theme parks!
Some sites invite visitors to step back into rural or logging camp life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Site de la Nouvelle-France (Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean), spectacularly located on the Saguenay fjord, takes visitors back even further to the very beginnings of New France.
Wildlife and other creatures
The many sites where you can get acquainted with the local fauna include Parc Oméga, between Montréal and Gatineau, whose animals roam freely in a wooded habitat; Refuge Pageau (Abitibi-Témiscamingue), where orphaned or injured creatures are rehabilitated before being returned to the wild; the Bioparc de la Gaspésie in Bonaventure and the Aquarium in Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
The Montréal Biodôme is housed in the former Velodrome, a cycling arena built for the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games by French architect Roger Taillibert.
