May getaways to flowering orchards
If you love apple picking, you’ll be happy to know that dozens of orchards are set in Québec. From the Montérégie to Québec City and the nearby île d’Orléans, to the Lanaudière, the Mauricie, and the Centre-du-Québec regions, there are lots of apple farms you can go to in the fall. But why wait until then to visit an orchard?
In the spring, especially from mid- to late-May, the apple trees are in full bloom, making the landscape even more beautiful with their gorgeous colors. It’s a great excuse to get away!
Apple blossom extravaganza
The Montérégie Cider Route on the St. Lawrence River’s south shore is the perfect place to take in the explosion of white and pink apple blossoms. There are a dozen orchards and cider houses along the route. Many also have shops full of great finds and local products.
You won’t want to miss the dazzling spectacle in this southern part of the area that’s gaining a reputation for its orchards. Why not take advantage of apple blossom season to join in the festivities and enjoy the special events! A few orchards have banded together to celebrate spring. During this flowering period, most of them are open free of charge to anyone who wants to stroll through.
Note: To find out event days and times, we recommend you to inquire with the orchard you’re planning to visit.
And even more orchards…
Other areas have orchards with apple trees that put on a dazzling display of beauty for just a short time every year, but many are only open in the fall. But don’t let that stop you from going for a drive to take in the apple blossoms before they’re gone!
